27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

I decided to read How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams. Adams argues that every individual's priority should be themselves. He mentions that if you don't want to be a burden you need to first make sure to take care of yourself, then your economics, and then everyone else. The author also give stories about how he has failed multiple times before escaping the hole he had dug. I believe that the book connects with me and what I've learned and done in the course. I have failed multiple times trying to pursue ideas in this course and had to learn to always account for different solutions to a problem. Thinking of a problem onesidedly ultimately leads to failure (you might succeed a few times but there comes a time where you need to learn to be creative). This was one of the lessons I learned from failing over and over again. I'm glad I failed before I was able to complete a few assignments because it helped me learn a lot of valuable information about the course, and even about my own life. I believe that if I had to design an activity for the students of ENT3003, it would be one that was very hard and would force students to fail multiple times before succeeding. Even though if I had to solve an exercise such as this one I would absolutely hate the course (temporarily), I would eventually grow to realize that it helped me become more aware of myself and learn from failing. My biggest 'aha' moment throughout the book was a quote I read from the author, "If you want success, figure out the price, then pay it. It sounds trivial and obvious, but if you unpack the idea it has extraordinary power.” I believe this is a very powerful statement as it shows that to every success story there is a price that was payed. I believe that sacrifice is inevidable if one seeks success and there will be failure throughout ones trial to success.
