14A – Halfway Reflection

1)     Tenaciousness is a competency

When I first started this course, I dreaded the workload required by this course, new assignments every week and constant lectures and quizzes. I believe this was due to some of my personality traits that I am not so fond of, such as procrastination. I had to learn to be a lot more proactive in order to be able to be up to date with the latest deadlines and assignments. Besides proactivity, another trait I have been using throughout this course is creativity. I believe that, while not a requirement, creativity plays a key role in this particular class, especially when it comes to coming up with ideas and solutions for your product or service. Lastly, I think determination and patience are also a significant traits that I have developed throughout this course. Being determined to achieve your goals and patient when things do not work out (as they quite often don’t, especially with some assignments) are very important in doing good in this class.

2)     Tenaciousness is also about attitude.

I think I came close to a “breaking-point” when I decided to switch my idea after a few assignments. I put in a lot of work towards the idea of a “DJ school,” as a DJ I thought my experience and expertise would help me a lot develop said idea, but in the end I decided that it was not the most feasible idea especially considering the situational factor of corona virus and the fact that I would have to compete with a  lot more resourceful schools that are already out there. My idea centered a electric scooter suitcase for travelers. The transition from one idea to another wasn’t the easiest and it took a lot of time and effort to come up with all the work I had put towards one concept and transfer it to the other. However, I think it was the right road to choose and I am content with my decision.

3)     Three tips.

(1) I think that if you decide to take this course, as a requirement or even as an elective, I think you need to start off with a very positive attitude. I think that attitude is key to making you enjoy the heavy workload a lot more and contribute to building tenacity towards this class, but also in your life in general. I also believe that being proactive is also a very important trait you need to develop when it comes to this course as the work is not easy and skimming deadlines will dramatically increase your stress levels. Most importantly, I believe that to be able to foster skills that support tenacity in the class, you need to select an idea that fits you. I think that the selection process to your idea is significant and a lot of time and thinking needs to be contributed to this process as you will be focusing on this idea for the rest of the course. (2) I believe that once you have developed the traits listed above, you will be able to form tenacity and increase your “grit.” Grit is defined as long-term passion and determination and is a key attribute to an individual who is tenacious. It’s not an easy skill to develop and you are going to struggle a lot to get there, but once you do, it will follow you for the rest of your life. I believe that to develop a tenacious mindset in the course, you need to constantly have a positive attitude, even when things aren’t looking too bright, be proactive, and choose something that you have a strong passion for and that means a lot you.
