7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1) The opportunity I would like to pursue is a Disc Jockey school.

2) The opportunity consists of the formation of a Disc Jockey school for students of any age to learn how to mix music for cheap due to the high prices of competition in this field.

3) A lot of DJs struggle with progress skill-wise and performance-wise but not all have this need. A lot of schools exist already and those that can afford them have been using them. There also exist customers outside my "who" who have this issue, who are not necessarily students.

The boundaries are potential customers that have already been through DJ school or have mastered skills on their own. Boundaries also include students who have a strong passion for music but not disc jockeying.

The whys for the group of customers I have identified with the need to be taught how to mix, include being unable to progress and perform in the way they want to.

4) Interviews

  1. Jack: I spoke with Jack on Zoom. Jack has been DJing for sometime now but hasn't been happy with the results. He believes he can better himself a lot and when I pitched him my idea, he was really excited to see the results. He informed that he has the need and believes that many others in his sector share the same need.
  2. Jamie: I spoke with Jamie on the phone. He's been DJing for roughly a year now and has been following an online DJ school. He says its a lot of money but it pays off as he's seen himself improve by milestones. When I pitched him my idea, he thought it was not a bad idea to find a cheaper way to spread knowledge and suggested I tried to get big names involved in it, such as Martin Ikin and PAX to teach their favorite methods and spread some positive energy.
  3. Rick: Rick is new to DJing and has a great passion for music. He has been looking into it for sometime now and decided to get a small DJ console. However, he informed me that it has been sitting in his closet for sometime now because he has been too lazy to find out information on his own about how to use it. He thinks my idea would help him a lot overcome the learning curve and get into disc jockeying.
  4. Santy: Santy has a great passion for electronic music. He hasn't DJed at all and, so far, hasn't been attempting to start. He thinks, however, that my idea will not only help DJs achieve their dreams, but also music lovers to appreciate music in a more, in-depth, extent.
  5. Willer: Willer has been mixing music for some years now and is in love with it. He plays for big clubs in Gainesville and, sometimes, Orlando. He believes that musical knowledge is something that should be spread and not kept to oneself. He said he enjoyed my pitch of an idea and thinks that he could help out spread his knowledge.
5) Results

I was happy to see that most of my interviewees were happy with my idea and that the need was existent for most of the interviews. I think that Jamie's idea to include big artists in my project and to have them spread their years of experience and knowledge was a great idea and will most likely be an addition to my pitch.
